Andrew attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa where he grew up. Assisting with the construction of a dozen Habitat for Humanity homes in the Cedar Valley was a catalyst for an interest in the building industry. After receiving a degree in history, he continued his studies at Iowa State where he completed the Masters in Architecture program in 2011. He became licensed in 2016.
His experiences as an intern with the State Historic Preservation Office and Benjamin Design Collaborative brought him to AHTS late in 2012. He particularly enjoys working on historic renovations. Andrew is an active member of the Cedar Falls Design Committee, Waverly Rotary Club, and Bremer County Historical Society.
Andrew lives in Waverly with his wife Ellen, a veterinarian in Cedar Falls. Their two children Lucy and Walter keep them busy at home. Many of their weekends are spent in the woods tending honeybees, making maple syrup, and managing Black Walnut veneer trees.
